This is a carved wooden artifact that is called a nguzu-nguzu, a traditional protective figurehead likely from the Solomon Islands used on tomoko war canoes. It depicts a stylised human head with a prominent jaw, a protruding chin, a conical hairstyle or hat, and intricate geometric mother-of-pearl shell inlay outlining the face and eyes. Historically these figures were believed to act as protective amulets to ward off sea spirits and ensure safe, successful voyages. It's in fantastic condition. They appear to be priced for a considerable amount online, but we are happy with where it sits
We do have another one, if you're interested in buying both please reach out and we could do a discounted combined price
